Performance Parts that will fit Predator 224 (Listed)

Harbor Freight has given us a new Engine to play with! But what are the rules? Mostly very similar to the Honda and Clone Engines. There is no part that is exclusively for this engine, everything you wish to upgrade is already available in the market.

Governor Removal

It uses the same mechanical governor as the Predator 212 but instead of 3600 rpm, this governor limits the rpm to 3750. It is placed in the same region inside the engine as the 212cc Predator. The removal process is also the same, you can expect to touch 5000 to 5500 rpm with the removed governor before the valve floats.

Stage 1 Kit

Stage 1 kits allow for your engine to breathe more air in, and release more burnt air out.

No major difference here, the Air Intake, exhaust, and carburetor are the same ones used in the Predator 212. This kit will work just fine with the Predator 224.

Carburetor

Carburetors with 26mm venturi will be the perfect upgrade for the engine since the intake valve size is 27mm (Venturi 1-2 mm less than valve usually gives the best performance)

Connecting Rod & Piston

You have a few options here, you can either get a flat top piston and +0.020″ rod or get a standard size rod with the OEM piston. Keep note of the wrist pin size and pin size (stated in the table) before ordering the parts.

0.030″ Clearance should be maintained at all times, choose the rod length accordingly, otherwise some machining work will be needed on the piston.

Valves and Valve Spring

It will use the same valves as the honda/clone engines. If you’re experienced with valve seat cutting, you can upgrade to bigger valves.

The stiffest valve spring it can take is the 26 lb. Some work will be required to fit in the 36lb or dual spring valves.

Other Parts

Almost every other parts including Camshaft, billet Flywheel, and ratio rockers are the same ones used on Honda and its Clones.

The only thing worth mentioning is that the OEM camshaft is made of plastic, it will be able to withstand the higher RPM builds but if you’ve got doubts, that might be the first thing to replace (if you already have an older Predator 212 or clone, you can swap the cams).

If you’re new to Engine building and want to know about what each of these upgraded parts will do to the engine then you can check our Predator 212 mods guide.
